Behind The Candelabra
It can’t be easy, even for Hollywood’s Best Oscar Winners to play Rhinestones Liberace.
Behind the Candelabra is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Rob Lowe (love our interview with him), Debbie Reynolds, Scott Bakula and Dan Aykroyd.
This film will air May 26, 2013 on HBO! It’s all about Liberace’s lifestyle, with a $23 million budget to make this film, I’m sure there were plenty of jewels (Swarovski I wonder?) to fight over.
It’s a very twisted life that writer Scott Thorson wrote about during their relationship.
Based on the autobiographical novel, the tempestuous 6-year relationship between Liberace and his (much younger) lover, Scott Thorson, is recounted. What makes this film unique is having to recreate the caped star with feathers, jewels ,tan and of course make up; and as Liberace would say, about his capes on TV: “Go Ahead, Touch it, You Bought It!”
Re-creating his costume looks and capes is designer Ellen Mirojnick and Marry Ellen Fields of Hargate Costumes. “Each piece is really a work of art,” says Mirojnick.
She toured his show stopping outfits in his official archives at the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas.
